Job Summary

Lowboy Driver, you must be capable of hauling standard and oversized and/or overweight equipment to and from a job site in a safe and effective manner. You must have a

Class A CDL. Hazmat and Tanker endorsements will be utilized if you have these. You are also required to perform some maintenance on truck and trailer equipment as necessary.

Primary responsibilities

  • Transport Construction Equipment that may also be Over Dimensional and Overweight loads
  • Inspect truck and trailers before and after each shift.
  • Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and request preventative maintenance.
  • Report any needed repairs to supervisor.
  • ELD are used to Document and log work/rest periods and miles spent driving and retain fuel/toll receipts.
  • Comply with DOT truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely in loading and unloading procedures as recommended manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Capable of operating winch on Roll back truck and telehandler loading materials and equipment.
  • Perform pre-shift safety inspection on the vehicle systems, equipment and accessories.
  • Ensure cargo is properly loaded and secured according to safety requirements.
  • Check to make sure loads are within legal height and width. If not, ensure that a permit is obtained.
  • Responsible for good housekeeping of equipment.
  • Perform duties with minimum supervision.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must have a class A CDL
  • At least 2 years of heavy haul experience
  • Working knowledge of heavy construction equipment
  • No recent moving or driving violations

  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts, possible weekends, overtime, and holidays as needed
  • Basic knowledge of overweight/oversize permitting and routing
  • Must be able to read equipment operating manual
  • Must be able to complete pre-shift inspection report
  • Must be able to read and interpret gauges
  • Must be able to wear all required Personal safety equipment
  • Must be able to communicate over CB radio or with hand signals and warning sounds, with coworkers regarding movement of vehicles and mobile equipment
  • Must be able to perform duties in a safe manner
  • Must be service oriented with proven ability to work in a TEAM environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have good hand/eye coordination and be able to operate hand/foot controls
  • Possess good vision to perceive depth at close range and distances up to 150 feet
  • Must be able to climb on and off equipment to operate, load and unload
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel in limited space in cab of vehicle
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Must work outside in all weather conditions consistent with extreme ambient temperatures: heat, cold, wetness, dryness, dust, and noisy conditions
  • Must be able to work at various heights

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • All trucks are air conditioned. There will be times when outside assignments may require periods of work in all weather conditions-heat, cold, wet or dry and dusty. Must be able to work in other tasks related to moving equipment, escorting loads, moving small materials to jobsites and helping out cleaning equipment, trucks and trailers, etc.
